Annual Nansemond Indian Pow Wow—Canceled

With a heavy heart, we are announcing the cancellation of our Pow Wow scheduled for August 21-22. The cancellation was recommended by the Pow Wow Planning Committee and approved by the Tribal Council after reviewing the latest public health data on the rapid increase in COVID-19 infection in the city of Suffolk, Commonwealth of Virginia, and state of North Carolina. The Pow Wow is an important part of our culture and will return as soon as it is safe. We hope everyone will strongly consider getting the COVID-19 vaccine to protect themselves and the community from the virus.

God Bless and Stay Safe,

Chief Earl L. Bass

32nd Annual Nansemond Indian Pow Wow

In 1988 our tribe held its first pow wow on ancestral land. It was called the “Nansemond Indian Homecoming” in celebration of our return to the Nansemond River after centuries of colonial displacement. Each year, in mid-August, we hold a “Nansemond Indian Homecoming” to welcome Nansemond descendants, family, and friends to our home. Though we hold our pow wow within the state of Virginia, state borders came long after us. Our history and our relationships have no borders.

Join us for the Annual Nansemond Indian Pow Wow at Mattanock Town (1001 Pembroke Lane, Suffolk, VA 23434) on August 21-22, 2021 and follow updates leading up to the event on Facebook. Vendor spaces are available. Please contact us at Contact@Nansemond.org for general information or Chief@Nansemond.org for vending.
